At War: Bigger's Id, Ego, and Superego Compete

Bigger's ego was in control when he was talking to Mrs. Dalton "He had to be careful with his answer now. And yet he knew he had a certain protection..."(121). His ego was in control because he was thinking rationally of what could happen to him if he gave himself away to Mrs. Dalton. His ego was also in control when he was thinking of what to do next, "he should have gotten more money out of it; he should have planned it.He had acted too hastily and accidentally..." (123). His ego was in control here because Bigger was alone he had time to think of what to do next, he didn't have to worry about someone asking him a question about Mary; however it also shows Bigger's superego because it shows a part of him that only cares about the money side of him, from childhood  he cared about the money because Bigger and his family grew up with a little amount of money, so money would always be on his mind whether they had enough or not. As for Bigger's id it really doesn't show because he is trying to control that part of him, he doesn't want people to  see it, his ego and superego are taking over, his ego is the one that has the most control because he is trying to stay calm and not give himself out or make himself suspicious.

Native Son thoughts of Mary's death

The way that Mary came to  die was very sudden, I would had never thought that Bigger would kill her that way,  well it seemed that he didn't want to kill her, he just didn't wanna be found by Mrs. Dalton. By trying to keep Mary from making a noise he suffocated her. The way that Bigger reacted when he found out that Mary was dead tells the readers that he didn't want to kill her. Many would ask why he burned her or why not just blame Jan. Well  maybe if Mary was not white and was black he would not of gotten scared, his fear got the best of him he was just thinking of what might happen to him because he had killed a white person. If Mary was black he would not of gotten scared because she would of been of his own race same social class as him, and not of a higher class. I also think that Bigger is not the only one to blame of the killing, i believe that Mary had something to do with her death because she was making Bigger lie for her and was making him not do his job.
